Why the Southern Islands Are Singapore’s Best Kept Charter Route
Less than 30 minutes by yacht from Marina @ Keppel Bay, Singapore’s Southern Islands feel like a different country. Clear water, quiet beaches, and virtually no crowds on weekdays make them the natural destination for every charter we operate. Whether you are doing a half-day sunset cruise or a full-day island hop, these islands form the backbone of the itinerary.
The Islands Worth Visiting
Lazarus Island
The most popular stop and for good reason. Lazarus has a crescent-shaped beach with calm, sheltered water ideal for swimming and anchoring. There are no commercial facilities on the island, which keeps it quiet. We anchor offshore and guests swim or kayak to shore. This is our go-to stop for birthday groups, corporate retreats, and anyone who wants beach time without the Sentosa crowds.
St John’s Island
Connected to Lazarus by a causeway, St John’s is the larger of the two and has more greenery and walking paths. It is a good option if your group wants to stretch their legs on land. There are sheltered picnic areas and basic toilet facilities.
Kusu Island
Known for its Tua Pek Kong temple and tortoise sanctuary, Kusu is a cultural stop that adds variety to a full-day charter. The waters around Kusu are generally calm, making it a good anchoring spot. During the ninth lunar month (October/November), the island sees more visitors for the annual pilgrimage, so plan accordingly.
Sisters’ Islands
Part of the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park, this area offers some of the best snorkelling conditions in Singapore waters. The marine park designation means the coral and marine life are better preserved here. We recommend this stop for guests interested in reef exploration, though visibility varies with tidal conditions.
Typical Itinerary Options
4-Hour Charter (Half Day)
Depart Marina @ Keppel Bay, cruise to Lazarus Island (approximately 20 to 25 minutes), anchor for swimming and water activities, enjoy onboard refreshments, and cruise back with a sunset view if timed for an afternoon departure. This is our most popular option.
8-Hour Charter (Full Day)
A full-day charter opens up multi-island itineraries. A typical route: depart in the morning, stop at Lazarus for swimming and a catered lunch onboard, cruise to Sisters’ Islands for snorkelling in the afternoon, then head to a scenic spot for sunset drinks before returning. This format works especially well for corporate groups and milestone celebrations.
Practical Tips for Southern Islands Charters
Bring reef-safe sunscreen. The islands have no shade structures and UV exposure on the water is intense. Wear water shoes if you plan to walk on Lazarus beach, as there are occasional rocks near the waterline. For full-day charters, we recommend arranging catering through us so you do not need to pack food. Fresh water showers are available on our larger vessels (Aquila 48 and Leopard 51).
Tidal conditions affect anchoring. Our captains adjust the itinerary on the day based on conditions, which is one of the advantages of chartering with an experienced crew rather than renting a boat independently.
Departing Marina Options
Most of our Southern Islands charters depart from Marina @ Keppel Bay, which offers the shortest route. ONE15 Sentosa Cove is also available as a departure point and adds variety to the cruise route. Both marinas have parking and are accessible by car or taxi.
